Restaurants, cafes and businesses related to food require extra hygiene in all aspects which guarantee safety for people. Food handling must have tools, materials and techniques which prevent a build-up of bacteria and germs, thus guaranteeing food in good condition for the people who are going to be eating it.

Design is another important factor in a restaurant, since it must convey a personality beyond its dishes. In addition, durability and resistance are important characteristics for maintaining a good appearance following the rhythm of daily work and the influx of visitors.

The Krion® features make the material the aesthetic and functional solution for contract refurbishment projects. A safe option which provides high added value to the business in different aspects:

  1. Hygienic surface

As we have already mentioned, the premises of the catering sector need to have surfaces and materials which guarantee safety for people. A clean and hygienic atmosphere will be an essential feature in this type of business.

And, how can Krion® help restaurant and food business hygiene?

a. Bacteriostatic surface: Because the surface is almost completely non-porous, there's no need for bactericidal agents in its composition. The surface is guaranteed to be sterile and free from germs, preventing the spread of pathogenic microorganisms.

British laboratory Virology Research Services Ltd. carried out a study on the behaviour of viruses on a Krion® surface.

Researchers placed a human coronavirus and influenza virus on a Krion® K · Life 1100 surface (without any treatment), and on a plastic surface for comparison.

After 24 hours, the coronavirus in contact with the plastic had lost 55.28% efficacy, whereas the virus in contact with Krion® had experienced an 82.22% reduction in infective capacity. The figures for influenza were an 88.75% reduction on Krion® in just 2 hours, compared with an 18.44% reduction on the plastic.

In conclusion: without any additional treatment, the Krion® surface is more sterile. It not only prevents the spread of microorganisms, but also diminishes their effectiveness. Plus, thanks to its intrinsic properties it prevents cross-contamination of foods, and is NSF certified for contact with food.

b. Easy of cleaning: Krion® is incredibly easy to clean. A sterile surface which is almost completely non-porous and free from joints prevents dirt from accumulating.

Thanks to its properties, Krion® is incredibly easy to clean. You can ensure the material remains in perfect condition throughout its lifespan by following these steps:

  • On a daily basis, clean any spills or splashes as quickly as possible to prevent stains from setting in. This makes it easier to clean. The best thing to do is simply wipe with a dish cloth, microfibre cloth or a sponge. A wipe is all you need to keep it clean.
  • If there's a mark or stain, clean it with water and a cloth or kitchen roll. Next apply a gentle cleaning product such as K-Cleaner to a damp cloth. Rub in a circular motion, then dry.
  • For stubborn stains, use K-Cream or a microparticle cleaner and dampen. Rub the stain in a circular motion with a scourer until it disappears. Remove any residue, rinse and dry.

  1. Highly durable surfaces

Restaurants and food businesses need strong and durable materials for two main reasons: high client traffic and the physical demands of daily work.

Therefore, Krion works on Solid Surface properties to offer surfaces that will be long-lasting which in the end, become a solid investment:

a. Easy repair: Krion® is full through-body, so if the surface is scratched, it can easily be repaired without its look being compromised. Any type of food or material can be removed entirely from the surface.

b. Non-chip: This material's excellent resistance against chips keeps the corners in great condition, even in the face of heavy use, handling or blows.

It's normal for surfaces to become susceptible to wear and tear with continued use. Commonly-used materials for tables and worktops in restaurants (such as wood or metal) often lose the edges of their corners over time.

Blows, scrapes and erosion over time affect almost all materials this way. But this isn't the case with Krion®. These surfaces remain intact. Even the corners and edges will look as good as new over time, thanks to their non-chip nature.

c. Fire resistance: Krion® has, according to empirical studies, greater resistance to fire than technological quartz, marble, methacrylate and wood. A property backed by the Euro Class B-s1-d0 certification in which a conventional solid surface gets a lower level: C-s1-d0.

  1. Aesthetic Surfaces

A restaurant must have an image which reinforces the personality shown in its dishes. The 5 senses are important for the diner, so every detail is taken into account for the interior design of the place.

The intrinsic properties of Krion® which make it easier the creative abilities of the owner, designer, interior designer and architect are:

a. Thermoforming property: Because it can be moulded and formed into unique shapes, all join-free and made-to-measure, Krion® is ideal for constructing spaces with personality.

Krion® can be thermoformed, making it easy to create original forms. And it means you can create curved countertops and worktops without any corners, with almost imperceptible joins. The result is a smooth and flawless continuous surface. And it's not just a question of aesthetics - it also prevents the accumulation of dirt.

b. Backlighting property: Krion® can be backlit to create truly unique designs, making it ideal for signage.

Restaurant diners are looking for much more than good food. Attractive décor is an excellent accompaniment to a good menu, and can stimulate all diners' five senses.

Backlighting is the perfect partner for creating a unique sensory experience, whether at a bar or on tables. You can even incorporate your corporate colours or restaurant logo for the ultimate backlit look.

c. A wide range of colours + customisation: Krion® has a wide range of colours to create spaces for a specific purpose. Besides, the Krion AdHoc service allows exclusive 100% custom-made colours to be created for large projects, fully adapted to the people's needs.
