Restaurants, cafes and businesses related to food require extra hygiene in all aspects which guarantee safety for people. Food handling must have tools, materials and techniques which prevent a build-up of bacteria and germs, thus guaranteeing food in good condition for the people who are going to be eating it.

Design is another important factor in a restaurant, since it must convey a personality beyond its dishes. In addition, durability and resistance are important characteristics for maintaining a good appearance following the rhythm of daily work and the influx of visitors.

The Krion® features make the material the aesthetic and functional solution for contract refurbishment projects. A safe option which provides high added value to the business in different aspects:

  1. Hygienic Surface: A Key Focus in Restaurant Design

As we have already mentioned, the premises of the catering sector need to have surfaces and materials which guarantee safety for people. A clean and hygienic atmosphere will be an essential feature in this type of business.

And, how can Krion® help restaurant and food business hygiene?

a. Bacteriostatic surface: Because the surface is almost completely non-porous, there's no need for bactericidal agents in its composition. The surface is guaranteed to be sterile and free from germs, preventing the spread of pathogenic microorganisms.

British laboratory Virology Research Services Ltd. carried out a study on the behaviour of viruses on a Krion® surface.

Researchers placed a human coronavirus and influenza virus on a Krion® K · Life 1100 surface (without any treatment), and on a plastic surface for comparison.

After 24 hours, the coronavirus in contact with the plastic had lost 55.28% efficacy, whereas the virus in contact with Krion® had experienced an 82.22% reduction in infective capacity. The figures for influenza were an 88.75% reduction on Krion® in just 2 hours, compared with an 18.44% reduction on the plastic.

In conclusion: without any additional treatment, the Krion® surface is more sterile. It not only prevents the spread of microorganisms, but also diminishes their effectiveness. Plus, thanks to its intrinsic properties it prevents cross-contamination of foods, and is NSF certified for contact with food.
