Whether you're going for a full bathroom renovation, replacing your bath for a shower tray, or updating your old shower tray; it's time to get to work and choose a decent shower tray.

We know it isn't always easy working out which pieces are right for your bathroom. So we've put together this guide to give you some pointers on choosing the right shower tray.

What are the main things to think about when choosing a shower tray?

To make sure you get just the right shower tray, you need to consider a few essential points. Of course, size and aesthetics matter - they're both fundamental to an attractive bathroom design - but there are other equally important aspects to consider when you're making your choice.

  • Non-slip capacity

Choosing a shower tray made in a non-slip material is an absolute priority. This means you can do away with annoying and unhygienic shower tray mats.

  • Resistant and quality material

Making sure the material is resistant - to both blows and chemical products - is extremely important in this part of the house. When making your choice, any shower tray made in a material that can withstand accidents is a definite plus.

  • Hygiene

Optimal hygiene conditions should be guaranteed with any shower tray. If they're manufactured in an antibacterial material with zero porosity to prevent the spread of germs, this is another plus. It won't just be easier to clean. It also ensures microorganisms and fungi will be prevented from developing on the surface.

  • Design

You also want to make sure you get the right style to suit your bathroom. If you don't get this right, you could ruin the overall aesthetic of your bathroom and end up with a major lack of personality in your bathroom.

Types of shower trays

The size and shape of your shower tray are two fundamental elements to take into account, and will depend on the size and shape of your bathroom. Let's take a look at three types of shower trays.

  1. Square shower tray. These types of shower tray suit small to medium-sized bathrooms. Because they're positioned in the corner, they make the most of the space you have.
  2. Rectangular shower traysThese are the perfect replacement for a bath, or will suit anyone looking for a more spacious shower - if your bathroom dimensions allow it. But they're not for really small bathrooms - they'll reduce your usable space even more.
  3. Angular shower trays. These are great choice for particularly small bathrooms. An angular shower tray can be positioned with the straight edges into a corner and the rounded part facing out. They're the smallest ones available, making them ideal for smaller or guest bathrooms.
  4. That allow to install a shower screen. There are some types of plates that, due to their design and finish, it is not possible to install a screen on their profile, having to resort to other types of more uncomfortable solutions.

When choosing a shower tray, taking into account the dimensions and the customisation options is key to making the most of the bathroom's possibilities. Without a doubt, optimising the space is the best way to enjoy a practical, pleasant and visually spacious bathroom.

How much does the smallest shower tray measure?

In bathrooms where space is limited, it is essential to choose the size of the shower tray carefully.

If you want to add a shower to make your lavatory a full bathroom, or if your bathroom is rather small, it is in your interest to choose a shower tray with reduced dimensions.

In general, when we talk about the "smallest possible shower tray," we usually refer to standard dimensions of 70 x 70 centimetres. These are the minimum dimensions you need to enjoy a comfortable shower, without your arms constantly banging against the walls.

However, 70 x 70 cm are not always the optimal dimensions to make the most of the available space.

Imagine your bathroom allows you to install a shower tray that is longer, but not so wide. Perhaps the optimal size to take advantage of every inch of your bathroom is a 67 x 83 cm shower tray.

In this case, customising is the most attractive option. This way, you can make the most of every inch of your bathroom, providing spacious areas to move throughout the bathroom without giving up a comfortable and practical shower tray.

Can Krion Shell® shower trays be trimmed to size?

Have you ever wondered if it is possible to trim a Krion Shell® shower tray to fully adapt it to the size and shape constraints of your bathroom? The answer is yes.

All shower trays made of Krion Shell® material can be trimmed and customised to suit your space requirements.

Trimming the shower tray at home

To do this, it is best to have the help of a professional who has the necessary tools and knowledge. Nevertheless, here are the steps that the installer needs to follow:

  1. Take careful measurements of the space you have for installing the shower tray. If it is an irregular space, it is important to also measure the cuts you will be making to ensure that the shower tray fits perfectly.
  2. Mark the cuts on the shower tray piece.
  3. With the help of a diamond-treated radial blade, make the cuts that have been marked with great care but without stopping at any time to avoid imperfections. During this step, it is important to respect the cut limits we mark at the factory to avoid trimming too much.
  4. Place the trimmed shower tray into the hole and secure it with the products we recommend.

This custom trimmed shape of the shower tray is possible thanks to the material used to make Krion Shell® shower trays. However, there is a much simpler way to get a shower tray with customised measurements: let our factory technicians trim it to size.

Trimming the shower tray at the factory

At the factory, trimming will be much more professional, so you can make sure that the result is completely to your liking. Our process for trimming Krion shower trays is as follows:

  1. The customer indicates the measurements and cuts to be made to the original piece.
  2. Using a diamond-treated radial blade, we make the appropriate cuts so that your custom shower tray fits into the hole.
  3. Along the edge that we have trimmed, we apply putty for protection, and we sand it down.
  4. To achieve a 100% professional result, we bevel the edge and thus offer a more aesthetic and safe finish.

Without a doubt, having a shower tray that fits like a glove in the space available in your bathroom is a major advantage. But if trimming is done professionally, you can make sure you get the best aesthetic result.
