Barely 100 metres from one of the crucial locations in Spanish tourism, the Plaza de Zocodover, Toledo, is the new Mercado de San Agustin market. In a 1400m2 space, its designers, A.M.A. Estudio de Arquitectura, have retained the facade of two former Toledan houses, in a five floor space with a wide range of products. One of the most attractive decorative details is the walls, which use the original hydraulic flooring of the houses. Next to the vertical garden which takes up the five floors, we find a mechanised lattice with geometric patterns, created with PORCELANOSA Group’s compact mineral, covering as high as approximately 15 metres without any type of join. What makes this lattice even more special is its location in the elevator shaft. Our KRION® Snow 1100 material, thanks to its light pigmentation achieved by the purity of our aluminas, is a translucent material, creating a spectacular effect with the movement of the illuminated elevator. We can also find KRION®, the Solid Surface by PORCELANOSA Group, in the wine cellars and bars of the market. A.M.A. Estudio de Arquitectura, in collaboration with the Boa Mistura collective, have recaptured the traditional character of the market, adapting it to 21st century criteria. Head architect of the project, Luis Moreno, states that in this fusion, the guidance of Pepe Rodríguez was of vital importance; Pepe Rodríguez having won the National Gastronomy Award in 2010, and recently being known as a judge on the television programme “Masterchef”.
